VFW To Host First-Ever Murder Mystery Dinner Fundraiser

Attendees at a VFW Post 5352 event on Saturday will be transported to a Vegas casino as they become sleuths in an interactive murder mystery.

House Committee Chairman Darren Lowry spoke to Scope News about the unique spin on traditional fundraisers.

“We had some members who went to a murder mystery at another place and they said how fun it was, so we figured, well, let’s try to do something like that here,” he said.

In addition to participation in the mystery, tickets include a spaghetti dinner.

“First we had it just for our members, then we opened it up to the public,” Lowry explained.

As of Thursday evening, only a few tickets were still available. Those interested in reserving a spot can contact the VFW by calling (336) 996-3611 between 2 and 8 p.m. Friday.

Doors open at 6 p.m. on Saturday and the mystery commences an hour later at the post, located at 618 Edgewood Street.

The fundraiser could be the beginning of a tradition, Lowry said, noting that it is just the latest in a growing number of new events being held at the post.

“This is kind of our test run, and we’re also looking into doing other things like a music bingo — and we’re actually looking into getting bingo back at the VFW,” he said.

A brunch event was recently added to complement the longstanding monthly breakfast, and the next wing night fundraiser is scheduled for July 11.
