After a Republican-controlled Congress passed a hard-fought tax bill this week along party lines, President Donald Trump set the stage for what he said claimed would be the benefits of its implementation.
One primary focus was the bill’s removal of the Affordable Care Act’s mandate requiring individuals to enroll in a healthcare plan.
“When the individual mandate is being repealed, that means Obamacare is being repealed because they get their money from the individual mandate,” Trump said. “So in this bill, not only do we have massive tax cuts and tax reform, we have essentially repealed Obamacare.”
He went on to state unequivocally that “Obamacare has been repealed in this bill.”
As the New York Times reported this week, the removal of an individual mandate could ultimately spell the demise of Obama’s chief legislative achievement.
