Trump says he is ‘really smart’ and ‘stable genius’ amid attacks on intelligence, mental fitness

Concerns about President Donald Trump’s competence hit a fever pitch this week following leaked excerpts from a new tell-all book.

In “Fire and Fury,” journalist Michael Wolff cited numerous individuals who were at one point in the Trump administration’s inner circle, cumulatively painting a picture of an unstable and unintelligent figure his own staff did not trust to carry out the duties of his office.

Trump took direct aim at those allegations in a series of tweets Saturday morning.

“I went from VERY successful businessman, to top T.V. Star………to President of the United States (on my first try),” he wrote. “I think that would qualify as not smart, but genius….and a very stable genius at that!”
