‘He says he’s innocent’: Trump addresses top aide ousted over domestic abuse claims

Following the very public ouster of White House staff secretary Rob Porter amid allegations from his two ex-wives of domestic abuse, President Donald Trump expressed support for his former top aide.

“Well, we wish him well, he worked very hard,” Trump said of Porter in comments to reporters Friday.

Trump continued by saying it is “obviously a tough time for him,” offering no such acknowledgement on behalf of Porter’s accusers.

He expressed hope and confidence that Porter will go on to “have a great career ahead of him,” calling the situation “very sad.”

The brief statement ended with a reminder that Porter denies the allegations against him.

“As you probably know, he says he’s innocent,” Trump said. “And I think you have to remember that.”
