Mexican president cancels DC trip after confrontational call with Trump

A contention phone call between U.S. President Donald Trump and his counterpart in Mexico reportedly prompted the cancellation of a scheduled upcoming trip.

As CNN reported, Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto had been expected to travel to D.C. next month for a visit with Trump, though a White House source indicated that trip has been called off in the wake of yet another acrimonious conversation between the two world leaders.

Officials from both nations confirmed the decision came over a fundamental disagreement over whether Mexico would pay for a wall along its border with the U.S.

The White House stated that the Feb. 20 call was “less hostile” but “no more productive” than a similar conversation between Trump and Nieto last year.
