Longtime Fox News analyst quits, calls network ‘propaganda machine’ for Trump

One of the more recognizable faces from the stable of Fox News Channel’s regular contributors recently declined to renew his contract, explaining in a letter to colleagues that he is now “ashamed” to be associated with the network.

BuzzFeed published retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Ralph Peters’ entire letter, which was deeply critical of both the network and President Donald Trump.

“Today, I feel that Fox News is assaulting our constitutional order and the rule of law, while fostering corrosive and unjustified paranoia among viewers,” Peters wrote. “Over my decade with Fox, I long was proud of the association. Now I am ashamed.”

He went on to accuse other Fox News personalities of ignoring facts and entertaining conspiracy theories in an effort to defend the Trump administration.

“In my view, Fox has degenerated from providing a legitimate and much-needed outlet for conservative voices to a mere propaganda machine for a destructive and ethically ruinous administration,” he wrote.

Peters said his criticism does not extend to the Fox Business Network or some of the anchors on Fox News.

“I have enjoyed and valued my relationship with Fox Business, and I will miss a number of hosts and staff members,” he concluded. “You’re the grown-ups.”

In a statement responding to Peters’ letter, Fox News wrote that he is “entitled to his opinion despite the fact that he’s choosing to use it as a weapon in order to gain attention.”
