White House addresses Trump’s lack of response to porn star’s claims

As allegations from several women — most notably an adult film star known professionally as Stormy Daniels — continue to dominate headlines about the Trump administration, the White House this week attempted to explain the president’s silence on the matter.

In a press conference Tuesday, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders affirmed a prior description of President Donald Trump as a “counter-puncher,” but noted that does not mean he “punches back on every single topic.”

Despite multiple lawsuits and television appearances by women making various claims, Sanders suggested the controversy does not rise to the level of warranting a presidential response.

“He also has a country to run,” she said. “And he is doing a great job with that.”

The spokeswoman said that Trump sometimes “chooses to specifically engage and punch back and sometimes he doesn’t.”

Though he has publicly insulted hundreds of political adversaries, including rappers, actors and journalists, since winning the 2016 presidential election, Trump has chosen to remain coy in response to the current batch of allegations.

Trump and his surrogates have repeatedly indicated he does not believe the claims of Stormy Daniels, whose legal name is Stephanie Clifford, and others.
