Trump predicts US ‘pain’ from trade tensions with China will pay off

President Donald Trump this week seemed to acknowledge what numerous market analysts had already declared: increasing trade tensions between the U.S. and China are negatively impacting the economy.

In a radio interview Friday on WABC, Trump conceded that the stock markets “could lose a little bit” of value in the wake of competing tariff threats between the two powerful nations.

“I’m not saying there’s not going to be any pain,” he said, later suggesting that the U.S. would “be much stronger for it.”

A statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry this week indicated that the nation is not looking for an escalation with the U.S., but is “not afraid to fight a trade war.”
