After cancellation, ‘Last Man Standing’ finds new network home

The cast and crew of one-time hit ABC sitcom “Last Man Standing” are reuniting for new episodes as part of a deal recently announced by Fox.

Fox picked up the orphaned series for another season while axing several of its own shows from the 2018-19 season.

When its former network pulled the plug last year after six seasons, fans petitioned to find it a new home while some alleged star Tim Allen’s on-screen conservative perspective played a role in its cancellation. ABC has denied these claims.

In a joint statement with Fox this week, Allen used a baseball metaphor to describe his reaction to reviving his character Mike Baxter, a sporting goods retailer.

He said the show “was in the sixth inning, ahead by four runs, stands were packed and then for no reason, they call off the game.”

Alluding to the show’s treatment by ABC, Allen said the experience “leaves you sitting in the dugout, holding a bat and puzzled.”

He previously admitted feeling “stunned and blindsided” by the network’s decision to cancel the popular series.
