Following a White House visit from Kim Kardashian to lobby on the great-grandmother’s behalf, reports Wednesday confirmed President Donald Trump decided to commute the sentence of Alice Johnson.
Sentenced to life in prison more than 20 years ago after her first drug conviction, Johnson has become a face of the prison-reform movement.
Trump’s latest in a series of often controversial pardons and commutations was announced this week and Kardashian was one of many who heralded the move as justice finally served in the case.
“So grateful to @realDonaldTrump, Jared Kushner & to everyone who has showed compassion & contributed countless hours to this important moment for Ms. Alice Marie Johnson,” she wrote. “Her commutation is inspirational & gives hope to so many others who are also deserving of a second chance.”
The news came amid developing reports that the White House had prepared paperwork for as many as 30 additional pardons.
