As a movement to abolish the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency grows in response to the Trump administration’s “zero-tolerance” immigration policy, one California demonstration this week ended in an elected official’s arrest.
Reports indicate that Democratic Los Angeles councilman Mike Bonin was arrested on Monday as protesters blocked the entrance to an ICE facility.
Demonstrators and journalists captured images and video of the arrest shortly before noon, depicting Bonin being led away with his hands bound by zip ties. He was one of 18 individuals arrested, including a leader in the local Jewish community.
They were all reportedly released a short time after they were arrested and booked into jail.
