As President Donald Trump faces additional pressures with major legal developments this week, he lashed out yet again at his attorney general in an interview Thursday.
He said Jeff Sessions “never took control” of the U.S. Department of Justice, leading to a clear rebuke of that assessment by the attorney general.
“I took control of the Department of Justice the day I was sworn in, which is why we have had unprecedented success at effectuating the President’s agenda — one that protects the safety and security and rights of the American people, reduces violent crime, enforces our immigration laws, promotes economic growth, and advances religious liberty,” he said.
In his statement, Sessions added that he would not allow the agency to “be improperly influenced by political considerations.”
