A California high school student is being hailed as a role model for his decision to return a large sum of cash he found on his way home last week.
According to Santa Barbara County authorities, 16-year-old Rhami Zeini found a black purse in the roadway and stopped to pick it up. To his surprise, $10,000 in cash was inside.
He reportedly went home and discussed the situation with his parents, ultimately deciding to take the property to the sheriff’s office.
Zeini called his decision “the right thing to do,” explaining that he put himself in the position of the purse’s owner.
“If the roles were reversed and I had lost something with a significant sum of money inside, I know I would want it back for sure,” he said.
Deputies were able to find the woman who owned the purse, explaining she likely left it on the roof of her car during a recent hike. She gave Zeini a $100 reward for his good deed.
