As protesters continue to gather on Capitol Hill in an effort to derail the confirmation of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, some senators are reportedly now being flanked by additional bodyguards.
According to Roll Call, Republican members of the Senate judiciary committee — including Sens. Lindsey Graham and John Kennedy — were seen walking with increased security including uniformed Capitol Police officers.
Deputy Sergeant at Arms James Morhard escorted Graham near the Capitol subway recently.
The South Carolina Republican said the situation has become “dangerous” as senators continue to weigh whether Kavanaugh, accused of sexual assault and misconduct, deserves to replace retired Justice Anthony Kennedy.
“I had somebody that wouldn’t let an elevator shut,” Graham said. “An Iraq War veteran. I appreciate his service, but I just have a different opinion of Judge Kavanaugh. I tried to make that clear.”
