Key GOP senator could be missing in Saturday’s Kavanaugh vote

As senators prepare to cast a vote on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s following a contentious confirmation process, a family wedding set for Saturday might mean one Republican won’t be there.

Following a cloture vote on Friday, the GOP leadership in the Senate scheduled a confirmation vote for Saturday, the same day Sen. Steve Daines, R-Mont., will be walking his daughter down the aisle.

The Hill cited a Daines spokesperson who indicated the wedding will go on — with Daines in attendance — even if it conflicts with the vote.

With Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska signaling her intention to oppose Kavanaugh’s confirmation, Republicans can only afford to lose one more senator unless a Democrat — like Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia — crosses the aisle to vote yes.
