U.S. Sen. David Perdue, R-Ga., is accused of battery in a civil suit filed on behalf of Georgia Tech student Nathan Knauf.
While asking the senator a question and recording him on campus earlier this month, Knauf says the senator grabbed his phone.
The computer science major hopes to recover damages and associated court costs, according to a lawsuit that requests a jury trial in the case.
As video evidence shows, Perdue appears to snatch Knauf’s device in response to a question about gubernatorial candidate Brian Kemp.
“How can you endorse a candidate who’s trying to reject people’s voter registration on the basis of their race?” the student asked, referring to the Republican attorney general Perdue had been at Georgia Tech to endorse.
