Following President Donald Trump’s recent indication that he is considering an executive order to strip birthright citizenship from the nation’s law, Republican Speaker of the House Paul Ryan dismissed the idea and both unfeasible and not reflective of conservative ideology.
“Well, you obviously cannot do that,” Ryan said in a recent interview. “You cannot end birthright citizenship with an executive order.”
He went on to say it would be no better for Trump to change the law by fiat than it was when he predecessor attempted it.
We didn’t like it when Obama tried changing immigration laws via executive action, and obviously as conservatives, we believe in the Constitution,” Ryan said.
