Florida cops are investigating allegations that a 52-year-old scammer ripped off an elderly man with dementia to buy a new set of false teeth and a puppy.
The victim was identified as an 80-year-old man whose identifying information was available on the dark web.
Criminal associates of the suspect, Timothy Powell, allegedly told him that replacing his teeth with implants would make it easier for him to commit future crimes.
Police say the victim received two bills from a dental office, alerting his family of the identity theft.
In addition to about $40,000 spent on teeth, Powell allegedly spent nearly $10,000 of the fraudulent funds on a French bulldog.
Investigators say another subject was likely involved in the scheme.
The alleged victim’s brother, Jake Brenner, said he has “never heard about anything like that,” adding that he is grateful police captured the suspect.
