GOP Sen. says Trump’s Saudi position ‘inconsistent with the intelligence’

A Republican senator expressed his disagreement with the president’s continuing defense of Saudi Arabia’s crown prince in light of U.S. intelligence reports tying Mohammad bin Salman to the brutal death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

In an interview this week, U.S. Sen. Mike Lee of Utah said that he “disagree[s] with the president’s assessment,” which he said is “inconsistent with the intelligence” he has seen on the matter.

Lee acknowledged that he doesn’t “have access to everything the president sees,” but pointed to reports indicating “that this was ordered by the crown prince.”

He went on to predict the incoming Democratic-controlled House will look into Donald Trump’s ties to Saudi Arabia.
