In a Twitter tirade that has seen some legal experts accuse him of witness tampering, President Donald Trump trashed his longtime personal lawyer, Michael Cohen.
Referring to Cohen’s request for a lenient sentence, Trump accused him of “TERRIBLE, unrelated to Trump, things” that warrant time behind bars.
“He makes up stories to get a GREAT & ALREADY reduced deal for himself, and get………his wife and father-in-law (who has the money?) off Scott Free [sic],” the president tweeted. “He lied for this outcome and should, in my opinion, serve a full and complete sentence.”
In another tweet, he lauded former adviser Roger Stone for “essentially stating that he will not be forced by a rogue and out of control prosecutor to make up lies and stories about ‘President Trump.'”
George Conway, who is married to senior White House counselor Kellyanne Conway, is among those making the argument that Trump’s out-in-the-open comments on the ongoing Justice Department probe represent an apparent violation of the law.
