During an exchange Wednesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” co-host Mika Brzezinski criticized Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s continued resistance to intelligence reports indicating Saudi Arabia’s crown prince was involved in the decision to brutally murder Washington Post columnist Jalam Khashoggi.
At one point, she questioned whether Pompeo had become “a wannabe dictator’s butt boy.”
After making the remark, which is widely considered homophobic, Brzezinski received swift social media backlash.
She responded with a tweet of her own, apologizing to her guest and for her “SUPER BAD choice of words.”
The co-host, who recently married host Joe Scarborough, added that she was “SO SORRY” and “should have said ‘water boy’… like for football teams or something like that.”
