After announcing his would be the latest resignation from the Trump administration, Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke denied reports that the president forced him out of the position amid multiple investigations into alleged misconduct.
He said in an interview on Friday that he believes Trump “was sad” to hear that he would be leaving his post.
“I do have the president’s full support,” Zinke said. “I exercised what the president wanted.”
He said he loved his position and the agency he led, but said “the distractions outweigh the accomplishments” he believes he has brought to the administration.
“And so, looking at it, it’s time to dismount,” he said.
