Conway laments ‘unfortunate misstatement’ by Sanders about border

After Fox News Channel anchor Chris Wallace provided a real-time fact check to White House press secretary Sarah Sanders‘ claim on Sunday, White House conselor Kellyanne Conway acknowledged the next day that it was “an unfortunate misstatement” by her West Wing colleague.

Conway appeared on Fox News on Monday and host Laura Ingraham asked about the debunked claim that “nearly 4,000 known or suspected terrorists come into our country illegally and we know that our most vulnerable point of entry is at our southern border.”

As Wallace pointed out, almost all of those arrests were made at airports, which Conway later alleged was nothing more than a simple mistake.

“That was an unfortunate misstatement and everybody makes mistakes, all of us,” she said of Sanders’ botched assertion. “The fact is, it’s corrected here and anybody who turns a blind eye to the actual numbers of human trafficking, the increase in the drugs, we are concerned about your children here in the United States not being subject to all these drugs and we’re concerned about their children.”
