After House Speaker Nancy Pelosi delivered a letter to the White House requesting the president postpone his upcoming State of the Union address until the government has reopened, Donald Trump responded by canceling her planned trip abroad.
The tit for tat struck critics on both sides of the aisle as needless partisanship on the part of both the Democratic leader and Republican president. Sen. Lindsey Graham, a frequent Trump ally, responded with disapproval following the president’s letter to Pelosi.
“One sophomoric response does not deserve another,” he tweeted. “Speaker Pelosi’s threat to cancel the State of the Union is very irresponsible and blatantly political.”
Graham went on to tweet that Trump “denying Speaker Pelosi military travel to visit our troops in Afghanistan, our allies in Egypt and NATO is also inappropriate.”
