As pressure to resign from within his own party continues to build over a recently surfaced yearbook photo, new details have surfaced regarding how the racist image of Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam’s page came to light.
Right-wing publication Big League Politics broke the story last week and a source from that website said the tip came from a former classmate upset with the Democrat over his position on late-term abortion. The image appeared under Northam’s name in the 1984 edition of his medical school yearbook.
After an initial apology and admission that he was pictured in the offensive image, Northam gave a widely panned news conference in which he denied he was in the photo but acknowledged he had appeared in blackface around the same time during a dance contest.
Big League Politics Editor in Chief Patrick Howley would only attribute the tip to a “concerned citizen,” noting the publication entered into a confidentiality agreement with the source.
