GOP lawmaker equates vaccine requirements to Communism

As preventable diseases including measles begin to spread amid decreased vaccination levels, lawmakers across the U.S. are working to increase the number of kids receiving the potentially lifesaving treatments.

For one Arizona Republican, however, compulsory proposals with narrow opt-out parameters is inherently anti-American.

“I read yesterday that the idea is being floated that if not enough people get vaccinated, then we are going to force them to,” Arizona state Rep. Kelly Townshend wrote in a controversial Facebook post. “The idea that we force someone to give up their liberty for the sake of the collective is not based on American values but rather, Communist.”

She went on to assert that her own child was “injured” by vaccines.
