A new report cites sources familiar with the conversations who say President Donald Trump told them he was “saving” a particular judge for the spot yet to be vacated by U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
He reportedly made the statement about 7th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Amy Barrett.
“I’m saving her for Ginsburg,” Trump has reportedly said since Justice Anthony Kennedy retired. That vacancy resulted in the nomination and contentious process of confirming Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
Though Barrett remains popular across much of Trump’s base, her anti-abortion stance turned off some moderate Republicans when her name was floated as a Kennedy replacement.
