2020 presidential hopeful Pete Buttigieg is among those who oppose the former Indiana governor’s stance on LGBT issues.

An openly gay Christian, the Democrat recently asserted that if Pence has a problem with him, his real “quarrel” is with God.

Karen Pence defended her husband in a statement Tuesday. She broadly declared that you “shouldn’t be attacked for what your religious beliefs are.”

She went on to allege that the South Bend, Indiana, mayor is making the comments about the vice president in an effort to “get some notoriety.”

Buttigieg spoke at an event earlier this week and shared his thoughts about the “Mike Pences of the world.”

After asserting that if he had become gay by choice, “it was a choice that was made far, far above [his] pay grade.”

He went on to call out Pence and those who share his worldview.

“If you’ve got a problem with who I am, your problem is not with me,” Buttigieg said. “Your quarrel, sir, is with my creator.”

Karen Pence addressed the issue in an interview with radio host Brian Kilmeade.

“I think in our country we need to understand you shouldn’t be attacked for what your religious beliefs are,” she said. “And I think kids need to learn that at a young age that this is OK. What faith people have, we don’t attack them for their faith.”
