Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden brought up the Charlottesville, Virginia, event in his announcement video this week. The former vice president specifically denounced Trump’s assertion that there were “very fine people on both sides.”

Trump defended the reaction to a reporter’s question shortly after the rally.

“If you look at what I said, you will see that the question was answered perfectly,” he said. “I was talking about people that went because they felt very strongly about the monument to Robert E. Lee, a great general. Whether you like it or not, he was a great general.”
