‘I guess we’ll never know’: Chase deletes tweet criticized as tone deaf

The nation’s largest bank reportedly deleted a tweet after backlash from some prominent elected officials.

In a tweet on Monday, JPMorgan Chase offered advice under the #MondayMotivation hashtag. At least one 2020 presidential candidate was quick to opine that it missed the mark.

Chase imagined a conversation between a customer and a bank account in an effort to encourage saving money.

You: why is my balance so low
Bank account: make coffee at home
Bank account: eat the food that’s already in the fridge
Bank account: you don’t need a cab, it’s only three blocks
You: I guess we’ll never know
Bank account: seriously?

U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., was among those who criticized the bank. In her own tweet, the presidential hopeful turned Chase’s invented conversation on its ear.

[Chase]: why aren’t customers saving money?
Taxpayers: we lost our jobs/homes/savings but gave you a $25b bailout
Workers: employers don’t pay living wages
Economists: rising costs + stagnant wages = 0 savings
Chase: guess we’ll never know
Everyone: seriously?
