U.S. Sen. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the progress in a statement on Monday.

“This was a very, very good start,” Schumer said. “We hope it will go to a constructive conclusion.”

Though a possible deal is still in the works, the Democratic leaders signaled common ground on $2 trillion to be spent on infrastructure projects including broadband along with work on roads and bridges.

Schumer noted that Trump’s earlier concerns did not stand in the way of talks on this issue.

“In previous meetings, the president has said, ‘If these investigations continue, I can’t work with you,'” he said. “He didn’t bring it up. The two are not mutually exclusive and we were glad he didn’t make it that way.”
