‘Expectations are so low’: Buttigieg jabs Trump over remarks about his marriage

He recently said that “the expectations are so low” in regard to Trump that he made news simply “by saying something that wasn’t viciously insulting.”

Buttigieg has previously criticized Vice President Mike Pence for his record on LGBTQ issues dating back to his time as Indiana’s governor.

As for the president’s blessing, he was less than enthused.

“That’s nice,” he said. “I’m more interested in policies that affect LGBTQ people.”

Buttigieg expanded on the theme in comments this weekend, saying that what a politician “says in an interview” is not necessarily reflected that person’s policies.

“So much attention is given to whatever remarkably outrageous and vicious and insulting thing that the president said,” Buttigieg remarked.

He went on to call it a “shame” that the president would likely not support protections included in the Equality Act.
