Buttigieg defends Fox News town hall, calls out hosts Carlson and Ingraham

Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg ventured outside of his party’s comfort zone with a Fox News Channel town hall event on Sunday.

The South Bend, Ind., mayor dismissed the argument that he should write off the right-leaning cable network.

“There are a lot of Americans who my party can’t blame if they are ignoring our message because they will never hear it if we don’t go on and talk about it,” he said.

Buttigieg went on to stress the importance of venturing “into places where Democrats haven’t been seen much,” though he did use the appearance to call out the views of the network’s more divisive partisan hosts.

He said he understands the reticence to appear on the same airwaves as some of the biggest Fox News names.

“I get where that’s coming from, especially when you see what’s going with some of the opinion hosts on this network,” Buttigieg said. “When you get Tucker Carlson saying that immigrants make America dirty, when you got Laura Ingraham comparing detention centers with children in cages to summer camps. Summer camps?”
