President Donald Trump was among those who criticized professor and columnist Ian Bremmer over an admittedly fabricated quote he shared on Twitter.
“President Trump in Tokyo: ‘Kim Jong Un is smarter and would make a better President than Sleepy Joe Biden,'” Bremmer tweeted and subsequently deleted.
He later posted that it was a “completely ludicrous quote,” indicating his intention had been to shed light on the “state of media and the twitterverse today.”
Trump took note of the development from his trip to Japan, calling Bremmer out for the ruse.
“This is what’s going on in the age of Fake News,” he wrote. “People think they can say anything and get away with it. Really, the libel laws should be changed to hold Fake News Media accountable!”
“My tweet yesterday about Trump preferring Kim Jong Un to Biden as President was meant in jest,” Bremmer later tweeted. “The President correctly quoted me as saying it was a “completely ludicrous” statement. I should have been clearer. My apologies.”
