Heineken, Sun-Maid among sponsors dropping team over video bashing Ocasio-Cortez

A California baseball team has lost another major sponsor following a politically charged video that aired during a recent game.

In a statement this week, Heineken International revealed that two of its brands — Tecate and Dos Equis — will no longer sponsor the Fresno Grizzlies.

It is the latest corporate exodus, following the Sun-Maid raisin company, in the days since the team aired a video showing an American lawmaker alongside people including North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un. The footage depicted U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., among its “enemies of freedom.”

“We do not support those views expressed in the video, that was aired during the Fresno Grizzlies game on Memorial Day,” the Heineken statement read. “For that reason, we have ended this relationship, effective immediately and have let the team know of our decision.”

In its statement on the matter, Sun-Maid wrote that it was “deeply disappointed by the Memorial Day tribute video” and “does not support the views or sentiments expressed in the video, nor does it condone the airing of it.”

The team has since apologized to Ocasio-Cortez.

“It was a mistake and we will ensure that nothing like it ever happens again,” the Grizzlies stated.
