Biden attacked from the left over stance on controversial abortion amendment

While representing a moderate Democratic voice in the 2020 presidential primary field, former Vice President Joe Biden continues to sustain early attacks from the left.

After a campaign spokesperson recently confirmed he still supports Hyde amendment regulations preventing public funds from being used for abortion, several groups and activists spoke out against the stance.

NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue, for example, said the position sets him apart from the rest of the field — and not in a good way.

“Differentiating himself from the field this way will not earn Joe Biden any political points and will bring harm to women who are already most vulnerable,” she said.

Other pro-abortion rights organizations expressed disappointment in the candidate’s position on the issue, as did 2020 rivals including Bernie Sanders.

“Abortion is a constitutional right,” Sanders tweeted. “Under my Medicare for All plan, we will repeal the Hyde Amendment.”
