‘He said the right thing at Normandy’: Acosta finds reason to praise Trump overseas

CNN’s Jim Acosta, a frequent critic of Donald Trump, gave the U.S. president and his French counterpart high marks for their D-Day memorial statements.

Acosta called it “perhaps the most on-message moment of Donald Trump’s presidency,” adding that he “stayed on script, stayed on message” and “rose to the moment.”

In particular, he noted Trump’s reference to the veterans gathered for the event as “among the greatest Americas who ever lived.”

The event in France left Acosta with the realization that “we’re witnessing sort of the end of an era” given the dwindling number of living World War II veterans.

“It really was one of those moments that I think Donald Trump needed to rise to in order to walk away from the cemetery, walk away from this hallowed ground, and have people at home say, ‘You know what? No matter what I think of the current president of the United States, he said the right thing at Normandy,” the correspondent concluded.
