Trump says he’ll get ‘such bad publicity’ if he petitions for Mt. Rushmore spot

A select few U.S. president have had their likenesses preserved on the face of Mount Rushmore. Asked if he thinks his should be added, President Donald Trump hedged his response.

“If I answer that question yes, I will end up with such bad publicity,” he said.

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, a Republican, recalled a conversation in which Trump was “totally serious” in expressing his desire to see his visage added to the mountain. He also addressed the issue in a 2017 rally.

“I’d ask whether or not you think I will someday be on Mount Rushmore,” he told the crowd, asserting that if he “did it joking, totally joking, having fun, the fake news media will say, ‘He believes he should be on Mount Rushmore.'”
