As Independence Day draws near, President Donald Trump is reportedly still making final tweaks to plans for a military-themed event in the nation’s capital.
According to reports, he is still requesting the presence of tanks on the National Mall for Thursday’s “Salute to America” celebration.
Officials confirmed the inclusion of a 35-minute fireworks display capped off by a flyover by a fighter jet. Tanks had been a sticking point for multiple reasons, though, and reportedly remains unconfirmed as of Monday.
Trump is also expected to deliver a speech from the Lincoln Memorial, leading to some criticism that he is attempting to leverage the holiday for his political benefit.
