‘Absolutely moving forward’: Trump vows to include citizenship question in census

New reports this week indicated that the Trump administration agreed to remove a citizenship question from the 2020 census in response to a U.S. Supreme Court ruling.

In a tweet on Wednesday, however, President Trump dismissed such sources — even those coming from within his administration.

“The News Reports about the Department of Commerce dropping its quest to put the Citizenship Question on the Census is incorrect or, to state it differently, FAKE!” he wrote. “We are absolutely moving forward, as we must, because of the importance of the answer to this question.”

It was Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross who said the previous day, however, that the “Census Bureau has started the process of printing the decennial questionnaires without the question,” adding that his focus “is to conduct a complete and accurate census.”
