Trump addresses claim that Revolutionary Army ‘took over the airports’

While President Donald Trump managed to steer clear of politics in his Independence Day address, one statement caught the attention of many social media critics.

He suggested that during the American Revolution, soldiers had access to aircraft that wouldn’t be invented for over a century.

“Our Army manned the air, it rammed the ramparts, it took over the airports, it did everything it had to do, and at Fort McHenry, under the rocket’s red glare it had nothing but victory,” he said. “And when dawn came, their star-spangled banner waved defiant.”

The following day, reports indicate that Trump was asked about the erroneous claim and blamed the weather and his Teleprompter, saying it is “hard to read in the rain.”
