“He never said that,” state Rep. Jay Lawrence wrote in response to a Facebook user’s comment on the matter, accusing the individual of ‘reading someone’s fake news.”

Though multiple other users joined in the attempt to convince him of the validity of the reports from Trump’s “Salute to America” event earlier this week, Lawrence continued the denial in another post.

“That is so fake I can not believe you bought it,” he wrote. “Dubbed from another speech maybe.”

The posts remained online Saturday morning with no apparent clarification from the lawmaker. As of this article’s publication, Lawrence had not responded to a request for comment.
