With news networks divided over whether to broadcast the D.C. event live, Fox News Channel registered the highest Independence Day ratings in its history during live coverage of President Donald Trump’s “Salute to America.”
It averaged 4.8 million viewers, according to Nielsen ratings during the event. CNN, which also carried the speech live, had less than a third of that number.
Things were closer among adults between 25 and 54. Fewer than 800,000 in this coveted advertising market tuned in to Fox News coverage, compared to more than 350,000 who watched it on CNN.
NBC opted to air coverage of New York City’s fireworks display, pulling in an average of 3.8 million viewers.
