Following Donald Trump‘s controversial announcement of an executive order that, among other things, cuts federal payroll taxes, presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden responded with sharp criticism.
The former vice president took aim at the plan based on the vital resources funded by such paycheck deductions.
Biden called it a “reckless war on Social Security” by the Trump administration.
Although the Obama administration under which he served instituted a payroll tax holiday in 2012, Biden pointed out an important difference.
He said Trump’s proposal lacks “protections or guarantees that the Social Security Trust Fund will be made whole.”
Equating it to Trump’s “roadmap to cutting Social Security,” Biden concluded that the nation’s “seniors and millions of Americans with disabilities are under enough stress without Trump putting their hard-earned Social Security benefits in doubt.”
