In a move critics say reeks of desperation, U.S. Sen. Martha McSally, R-Ariz., is calling on her supporters to pass up a meal in order to send her struggling campaign some cash.
“We’re doing our part to catch up, you know, to get our message out. But it takes resources,” she said. “So, anybody can give, I’m not ashamed to ask, to invest. If you can give one dollar, five dollars, if you can fast a meal and give what that would be.”
The freshman senator is facing an uphill battle against Democratic challenger Mark Kelly, who currently has a lead in the polls.
