An exchange between ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos and U.S. Sen. Mike Braun, R-Ind., on Sunday highlighted a clear partisan chasm in the interpretation of last month’s presidential election.
Stephanopoulos cited the fact that President-elect Joe Biden’s “victory has now been certified in states totaling 279 electoral votes,” asking Braun if he could “now accept that [Biden is] president-elect.”
In response to investigations turning up no evidence of widespread voter fraud in swing states, the senator opined that “it’s easy to say it’s played out because that might be the most convenient thing to say,” but pointed to “boxes of ballots coming out from underneath the table” in apparent reference to a debunked conspiracy theory circulated among some Trump supporters.
“There wasn’t anything wrong shown in that video at all,” Stephanopoulos explained. “So you’re just throwing a claim out there.”
