Even as some of Donald Trump’s most ardent defenders continue to parrot his unfounded claims that last month’s presidential election was rigged, Georgia’s Republican governor is calling out those in his own party who might be considering appointing their own electors in the wake of President-elect Joe Biden’s state win.
Gov. Brian Kemp issued his warning that it is “not an option” for Georgia lawmakers to subvert the will of the people.
“You all will be taking an oath to uphold the laws and constitution of our state and now, more than ever, it is important to remember that thousands of brave men and women have paid the ultimate sacrifice for those laws, that constitution and all that they protect,” he said.
Kemp continued: “I’m confident that each of you will live up to the words and greater calling regardless of political consequences. That’s what I’ve been doing,” he added.
