The Kernersville Little Theatre is bringing back an annual tradition with its upcoming performance paying tribute to an iconic children’s author.
Marking the 10th anniversary of “Bring a Book to Life,” actors of all ages are preparing for the opening night of “Seussical,” a musical comedy based on characters immortalized in classic Dr. Seuss books.
Beth James, one of the show’s producers, spoke to Scope News about the significance of continuing a tradition that dates back to a 2014 performance of “Charlotte’s Web.”
“This program gives us the chance to both cast more young actors as well as give back to Kernersville Elementary School, where most of our productions are held,” she said.
In addition to six upcoming shows for the general community, James noted that students will be treated to a special performance during school hours.
“We also provide every student in the school with a new book or the show — or something show-related,” she said, explaining that Dr. Seuss’ extensive collection of books provided plenty of titles from which to choose.
A decade into the “Bring a Book to Life” program, James said that KLT has never repeated a performance, though many of the young actors who will be taking the stage later this month have participated in previous shows.
“My own son has performed in eight of them and contributed in other off-stage ways for the last two,” she added.
“Seussical” is the third show in KLT’s 2022-23 season and performances will span two weeks beginning on Feb. 24 at Fitzpatrick Auditorium, 512 W. Mountain St. Friday and Saturday performances will begin at 7:30 and the curtain will open for Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.
