Another John Deere Expansion Could Add 150 New Jobs

In addition to the 115,000-square-foot battery production facility currently under construction, John Deere is eyeing Kernersville for another new factory adjacent to its existing plant.

John Deere provided a statement to Scope News, explaining that the prospective facility would span 380,000 square feet and involve an investment of about $70 million.

“The new factory would produce small excavators and add about 150 new jobs,” the company added. “Construction would start in late 2024.”

Deere & Company announced in August that it would begin construction of a local facility for the manufacture of batteries and chargers by Kreisel Electric, its subsidiary.

“Together with Kreisel, John Deere is expanding its electrification portfolio to include more scalable solutions to meet a wider range of our customers’ application needs,” said John Deere Electric Powertrain Global Director Jennifer Preston at the time. “This investment is a great step forward as we work toward our goal of demonstrating viable low- and near-zero-carbon power solutions by 2026.”

John Deere has maintained a presence in Kernersville since its main campus opened in 1988.
