Fundraiser Planned For Local Resident’s Medical Treatment

The Brewer’s Kettle will host an event on June 1 featuring live music, food, raffle drawings and more to benefit a Kernersville woman battling stage-four renal cell carcinoma.

Susan Thomas, one of the fundraiser’s organizers, told Scope News that the four-hour event will begin at noon.

“We will have a live band, Moxie, on stage at 1 p.m.,” she said. “We have [the] Food Freaks truck and a donut truck plus Pot Heads coffee.”

There will also be vendors on site, hourly raffles for a variety of prize packages, and a bounce house for kids. Proceeds and donations will help cover Rita Jackson’s mounting medical bills and other expenses.

“Her treatment is $53,000 a month,” Thomas explained. “Going back and forth to the hospital and parking is not cheap. She is on 100% disability. Last year, the cancer went to her brain; it gave her seizures. She is doing very well, but it is terminal.”

Throughout her battle, Thomas said Jackson has remained an inspiration to those around her.

“She gets up every day and walks,” Thomas added. “She has gone through all her savings and 401(k), but she is a very positive person and keeps fighting. She believes that God has this. So please come out, buy tickets, and enjoy the band. People don’t realize how cancer affects all family members. Help Rita fight!”
